Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do our prices compare to other painting contractors?
A: We strive to offer the most economical price through volume purchasing and using student labor. Our focus is delivering the best service in the industry through consistent communication at all times. You will be aware to where we are at with your job, from the estimate to choosing colors to the last finishing touch.

We are confident that Student Edge can offer you the best painting value at a competitive price. Student Edge offers very competitive prices compared to other professional painting companies. We offer additional valuable features that, often times, other contractors don’t; such as our 3 year guarantee to ensure proper preparation work, 2 million in Liability Insurance and we’re licensed and bonded. These are all extremely important aspects to take into consideration when comparing price, you must also consider the value that each price offers.

Q: What does the 3 year guarantee really include?
A: If you experience an issue with the paint job we performed for you within 3 years of the completion date, we will evaluate the job for any application error, assess the job and determine the extent of the warranty work required. We guarantee paint and labor. From this, we will devise a plan to complete the work during July 15th- August 15th.

Q: Are all of the painters really students?
A: Predominantly our Branch Managers and painters are students. That being said, we do not discourage our student Branch Managers from hiring qualified and experienced painters for the summer. About 95% are students so they are able to earn money to pay for their educational expenses such as tuition, textbooks, and other supplies.

Q: How much experience do the students have?
A: As a company that specializes in painting year after year, we have developed successful tried and true methods that we instill in managers and painters during multiple training sessions throughout the spring months. This proven systemized learning process offers both the knowledge as well as the hands on experience needed to produce a top quality paint job.

Q: Do we mow lawns, wash windows, or do other general labor odd jobs?
A: No. We are only licensed and bonded to perform the task we know best, painting.

Q: Do you specialize in interior painting as well?
A: A. Yes. Our managers must be in business for at least one year prior to performing interior work.

Q: Why should I hire students instead of a professional painter?
A: The biggest advantage you will experience from our trained student managers is the detail and the service you receive. Our program puts communication first. Remember: The student managers have more reasons than money to perform a quality paint job. Your glowing reference letter at the end of the project will help catapult their career. They are doing this to earn tuition money and internship credit. Their grade depends on you and the quality of service they deliver.

Q: Do you have a safety program?
A: Of course! Safety is a major concern at Student Edge. We have weekly safety meetings that cover a new safety topic and offer an opportunity for the crew to discuss other safety issues. In addition, we have an on- site Safety Field Manual, available on this website, including everything from fall protection plans to electrical safety that painters must read and pass a safety exam before working on a jobsite.

Q: Do you work on homes with lead?
A: A. Yes, select Branch Managers are certified in the LEAD awareness program recently mandated by the EPA. All managers are trained to identify lead. Our Safety Manual includes our accident prevention program and the proper measures with respect to handling lead homes. We take safety very seriously.

Q: Do you spray?
A: Select managers are carefully trained on spraying and masking application. This is always followed by a backroll.

Q: Are you an environmentally friendly company?
A: Yes. We avoid using oil where possible as well as using the lowest volatile organic compound (VOC) products. We dispose of all paint properly into the sewer system, not into backyards! Brushes are taken care of and last all summer. Roller sleeves are re-used until no longer suitable for paint or stain application.
